rest day and nan sent me up the garden after her dog, who had nicked a bit of toast and apparently qualified for the olympics overnight. i only jogged after him but the grass were wet and i had to keep checking my footing, could feel my old calf getting tight every time i stopped. caught him by sitting down and pretending i had something better, genius tactics from the big lad. then i couldnt get up without putting a hand on the ground because he climbed straight onto my lap. sat there warm and out of puff with cold coming through my jeans while nan laughed from the door. better workout than i had planned, worse trousers

The close has been washed, though I completed the lower tiles seated on the bottom stair rather than kneeling throughout. My right toe is not troublesome today; the knees, however, object to remaining bent on a cold floor. Warm water felt pleasant on my hands once I removed the gloves, and I stayed at the basin longer than the task required. Carrying the bucket upstairs left me short of breath at the second landing. I stopped there, without pretending to inspect anything. At home my wife had made tea. Sitting with dry socks on and no immediate requirement to rise was agreeable. The brush can be put away after the cup is finished.

ذهبت إلى أمي من دون مناسبة، وقلت لنفسي إنني سأجلس فعلاً هذه المرة. بعد دقائق كنت أسأل أين الأكواب وأعيد ترتيب الصينية، فقالت لي تعالي اشربي قهوتك بس. ضحكت، ثم شعرت براحة كبيرة عندما جلست ولم تطلب مني شيئاً. أحب أن يعتمدوا علي، لكنني تعبت من الدخول إلى كل بيت وأنا أبحث عما ينقصه. أمي سألت عن يومي وانتظرت الإجابة الطويلة، ليس تقرير العمل الذي أقوله عادة. حكيت لها عن موقف ضايقني فضايقها من أجلي. كنت أحتاج هذا الانحياز الصغير، لا نصيحة ولا تذكيراً بأن كل الوظائف متعبة. رجعت أخف، حتى مع زحمة الطريق نفسها.

Estoy repasando una jugada del domingo porque desde donde yo estaba parecía clarísima y una compañera que vio el partido desde la banda me describió otra cosa. No digo que tenga razón ella, tampoco voy a inventar que yo vi todo. La pelota me tapó un instante los pies y esa parte la completé por cómo cayeron las jugadoras. Me interesa separar lo que alcancé a ver de lo que supuse después, sin el entrenador gritando encima. En la cancha decidí y seguimos, eso ya pasó. Ahora puedo darle una vuelta sin que se caiga el silbato del cajón, aunque me fastidie admitir que tengo la misma imagen atorada desde anoche.

Sesudah acara saya duduk di teras sementara anak-anak muda menurunkan peralatan. Biasanya masih ikut mencari kabel yang belum masuk, tetapi malam ini pinggang terasa berat setiap berdiri. Saya biarkan mereka menyelesaikan dahulu. Angin kena telapak kaki setelah sandal dilepas, rasanya kepenak sekali. Telinga kanan masih berdengung, jadi ketika cucu berbicara saya minta ia duduk di sebelah kiri, jangan memanggil dari pintu. Ia malah menyandarkan kepala di lengan saya. Tangan yang tadi sibuk memegang mikrofon jadi diam cukup lama. Mas kernet datang membawa minum dan bertanya mengapa saya belum masuk. Sedang enak duduk, jawab saya.

Two rows weeded before supper. The boy wanted down so he could pull things too, and I spent more time squatting beside him than actually weeding. My legs felt it when I stood back up. Dirt got inside my shoes and I left them by the back door, then stood barefoot on the cool kitchen floor while the potatoes boiled. That felt good. I was hungry enough to eat before the lineman got home but waited the extra ten minutes. The boy ate half a potato right off my plate. He had his own. After supper I stretched out on the couch with my feet uncovered. There is still dirt in one shoe and it can stay there till morning.

Mon fils a annulé notre sortie pour voir des amis, en me demandant si cela m'ennuyait. J'ai répondu que non, évidemment, puisqu'il ne fait rien de mal. Après son message, j'ai tout de même éprouvé une déception assez nette. J'avais acheté le chocolat qu'on emporte d'habitude et il est resté sur le meuble près de la porte. Ce n'est pas un drame, simplement j'avais organisé ma journée autour d'un moment qu'il voyait comme une possibilité parmi d'autres. Il m'a téléphoné le soir pour raconter quelque chose de sa sortie et je l'ai écouté avec plaisir. Je n'ai pas parlé du chocolat. Il le trouvera la prochaine fois, à moins que je ne le mange avant.

i'm writing an ffa piece and keep deleting the part about the borrowed goat because i don't want the story to turn into people being impressed i did something without owning everything. it's supposed to be about showing the animal, not a scholarship essay with hooves. but taking that detail out makes it sound like i had my own place to keep him, and uncle did a lot. tried writing what he actually helped with, plain, no inspirational music. better. still need to cut forty words. asked mom which sentence sounded most dramatic and she picked my favourite one immediately, so that was a useful and personally offensive editing session

Mon gars m'a demandé de regarder quelque chose qu'il avait fait pour l'école, pis j'ai réussi à tenir environ vingt secondes avant de proposer une amélioration. Il a fermé l'écran en disant qu'il voulait juste me montrer. Ouch. J'étais vraiment contente qu'il vienne me chercher, j'avais juste exprimé ça avec la délicatesse d'une revue de code. Je lui ai dit que je voulais revoir le reste, sans corriger. Il s'est méfié un peu, à raison, mais il a rouvert. C'était drôle, son affaire, pis ça lui ressemblait. J'ai ri aux bons endroits au lieu de chercher les problèmes. Je peux apprendre, même à quarante-huit ans, mais faudrait pas annoncer ça trop fort au bureau.

মেয়ে অঙ্কের একটা সমাধান দেখাল, আমার বলা নিয়মে করেনি। প্রথমে মনে হল মাঝখানে ধাপ বাদ দিয়েছে। পরে ধীরে বুঝিয়ে দিল কীভাবে করেছে। হিসাব ঠিক। আমি আরেকবার মিলিয়ে বললাম ঠিক আছে। সে বলল, শুধু ঠিক আছে বললে হবে না, এবার আমার পদ্ধতিও মানতে হবে। মুখের কথা শুনে হাসি পেল। ছোটবেলায় প্রতিটি লাইন লিখে আমাকে দেখাত, এখন আমাকে বোঝাচ্ছে। এতে শান্তি আছে। ওর পরীক্ষার কথা ভাবলে যে চাপ হয়, আজ কিছুক্ষণ ছিল না। খাতা ফেরত দেওয়ার পরও মেয়েটা টেবিলে বসে ছিল। আমি আর নতুন প্রশ্ন দিইনি। কিছুক্ষণ স্কুলের অন্য কথা শুনেছি, সব নাম চিনি না।
