Pelanggan lama bilang kuah sekarang beda dengan waktu kami masih pakai gerobak. Saya tanya beda bagaimana, dia jawab dulu lebih enak, selesai sudah penelitiannya! Saya ingat bumbu dan cara masaknya, banyak yang masih sama, tetapi waktu itu orang makan sambil berdiri atau duduk seadanya, lapar setelah dari pasar. Sekarang ada meja, ada pilihan, sempat menilai. Bisa juga memang ada yang berubah dan saya tidak sadar karena setiap hari mencicipi. Saya minta Ruth coba tanpa saya memberi komentar dulu, dia bilang kurang asin sedikit, bukan kurang masa lalu. Itu jawaban yang bisa dikerjakan. Pelanggan tadi tetap menambah kuah dua kali, jadi penilaiannya saya simpan bersama bukti lain.

今天吃豆皮，刚出锅的，我急着咬了一口，烫得只好张着嘴，摊主还笑我天天来怎么还这样。老了胃口倒没变，闻到香的还是想吃，就是现在得慢慢嚼，不能跟年轻时一样几口吞完赶上班。坐在摊边吃到一半，背上热乎乎的，早上出门那点凉气也没了。我把外套搭在腿上，人舒服得都不想站起来。旁边一个婆婆说她吃不下这么多，要分我，我赶紧摆手，我这一份还没完哩。吃完回家爬到三楼歇了一下，嘴里还有香味，肚子也踏实。到屋里坐下，裤腰紧了点，先松开再说。儿子买的那条新裤子腰头太硬，我还是爱穿这一条，旧归旧，吃饱了不勒人。

Mi mejor amiga me pidió que le mostrara una canción mía completa y le dije que todavía no estaba lista, aunque sí está. Me dio pena, de esa que empieza en las orejas, porque una cosa es cantar lo que escribió otra persona y otra que ella sepa qué cosas se me ocurren cuando estoy sola. También me dio alegría que quisiera escucharla de verdad y no solo por molestar. Casi le mando una foto cuando llegué a la casa, ya tenía el chat abierto, pero me imaginé esperando a que respondiera y me arrepentí. Ahora estoy medio brava conmigo. Ella ni sabe todo el drama que armé por una pregunta tan normal.

مساعدي سأل كيف أفرق من صوت الثلاجة بين العطل الكبير والحاجة البسيطة، وكنت سأقول له مع الوقت تعرف، لكن هذه ليست إجابة يتعلم منها. أنا أسمع وأقارن بأصوات مرت عليّ، وهو لم يسمعها كلها بعد. أفكر أسجل له صوت جهاز سليم وصوت الجهاز قبل الإصلاح وبعده، مع كتابة ما وجدناه فعلاً، حتى لا يظن أن الصوت وحده يكفي للحكم. قد يكون الصوت متشابهاً والسبب مختلفاً، ولا أريد أن يبدأ بتبديل القطع من أول تخمين. عندنا جهاز مفصول في الورشة يمكن نشرح عليه الأجزاء من غير استعجال زبون. هو يسأل أسئلة جيدة، المشكلة أنني أجيب أحياناً وأنا أرتب البلاغ التالي في رأسي.

Sunday lunch was good enough that I stopped pretending I wanted only a small serving. Extra rice, obviously, but also an actual chair, warm food and nobody asking me to check a reservation while I chew. I could feel myself eating slower after the first few bites, which is not how my hotel breaks usually go. Then an aunt made the usual comment about my waist and suddenly I was noticing my stomach against the waistband instead of the food. Annoying how fast that happens. I finished what was on my plate. Later my sister and I walked a little before the ride home, both sleepy and full, arguing about which leftovers Mama had packed for whom.

At choir practice we held one note longer than I expected and I ran out of breath before the others. I had been standing with my shoulders up, the same way I sit when I'm checking a difficult reconciliation. Once I loosened my collar and took a proper breath, the next attempt felt easier, sound coming out without that tight feeling in my throat. By the end I was warm enough to leave my jacket over my arm on the walk outside. Funny how I can spend a whole day hardly noticing my breathing and then have to pay attention to it just to finish a line with everyone else. My voice is a little rough now, but in a satisfying way.

en el padel me han puesto a jugar con una pala prestada porque la mia se quedó en la furgoneta, y he pasado media hora echándole la culpa de todas las bolas. pesa distinto, eso es verdad. al rato ya ni pensaba en la mano, corria para llegar y me salia la risa cuando no llegaba, que ha sido bastante. al sentarme después noté el talón cargado y la camiseta pegada a la espalda. me habia bebido el agua sin enterarme. he vuelto andando despacio con las otras, hablando de cualquier tonteria. el brazo está cansado pero no tengo ganas de acostarme todavía, cosa rara en mí.

wife showed her friend the staircase pictures on my phone. i had only handed it over to show where the kids had been playing, but she kept swiping and said here, look what he made. felt a little awkward standing there while they looked. her friend asked if all the curves were wood and i said yes, which didn't explain much. could have shown her how the pieces went together but they were already on another picture. good she liked it. later i checked which photos my wife had picked. there are a couple from before the railing went in that show the work better. might put those in a separate folder.

trying to work out why the breakfast potatoes taste better halfway through service than in the first pan. same cut, same seasoning, but the later batch gets more time sitting before it hits the heat and the pan itself is properly hot. i tested a small amount at home and got impatient waiting, which tells you something about the reliability of the experiment. roommate ate both versions and said potato is potato. useful panel, very rigorous. i can still taste the difference in my head, the crisp edge without the middle drying out. keep scribbling timings in the truck menu notebook even though im nowhere near having a truck. at least the potatoes don't require financing.

雨停了才发现雨衣里面比外面还湿，背后那件T恤贴得紧紧的，进商场拿餐，冷气一吹整个人缩了一下。原本想站在柜台旁边等，后来实在冷，走到门口有太阳的地方，手臂慢慢暖回来，后背还是凉。最烦是袜子也湿了，脚在鞋里滑，踩地的时候总觉得不稳。我回去换袜子，少跑一单就少跑啦，穿着湿的继续到晚上才真的难受。脱头盔的时候额头一圈都压红了，手指摸过去有点麻，过一会又痒。现在坐在风扇前，头发还没干，但换了干衣服，皮肤终于不像被包住，肩膀也肯放下来一点。
