На рынке увидел старую вывеску, которую когда-то сам писал. Доска потемнела, а расстояние между двумя буквами всё равно меня раздражает, тридцать лет прошло, исправить хочется. Заказчик давно другой, ему надпись подходит и никаких вопросов нет. Я бы и бесплатно подправил, только тогда придётся всю строку заново, старую краску уже не подберёшь. Пока сфотографировал. Дома помощник посмотрел и сказал, что у неё характер. Удобное слово, можно любую неровность защитить. Но чем дольше гляжу, тем меньше хочу снимать эту доску. Новую ровную сделать сумеем, а такую старую обратно уже не получишь.

My aunt and I can't agree whether her red sauce tasted different when she used the old pot. I say she makes smaller batches now and lets them cook longer. She says the pot mattered and I am too educated to listen. Not seriously, mostly. I caught myself planning two batches with matching ingredients as if we were going to settle a family argument by Tuesday. The trouble is neither of us measures when we cook at her house, and the old pot is gone. I like having something to wonder about that doesn't need a price attached. Next time I'll stand beside her while she cooks instead of arriving when the food is ready.

One of the teenagers asked to bring a friend on my tour, then added that I wasn't to make a big thing of it. Naturally I spent the morning worrying what counted as a big thing. They listened, both of them, even at the part with Taid's lamp where I thought mine would stare at the floor. Afterwards I got a quite good, Dad, delivered while looking for a phone. Not a speech, not one for the family history, but it pleased me all afternoon. Told my wife and she said I was grinning exactly as I had been warned not to. I kept it to the kitchen. That ought to count as respecting the terms.

j'ai remis mon vieux maillot pour aller nager pis j'ai passé plus de temps à tirer sur le tissu devant le miroir qu'à préparer mon sac. dans l'eau par contre j'ai retrouvé assez vite le mouvement, sauf que mon souffle suivait vraiment pas le souvenir que j'avais de moi à douze ans hahaha. après quatre longueurs j'étais arrêtée au bord avec les bras lourds, pas mal mais lourds pour vrai. j'avais oublié cette fatigue-là, différente de rester debout au service à l'auto toute une soirée. en revenant mes cheveux sentaient encore le chlore pis j'avais faim tout de suite. j'ai pas nagé autant que prévu mais je me sentais bien dans mes épaules pour une fois.

The 10yo asked if I could come to the school thing even though it was during work. I said yes, put it on the calendar, thought that covered it. Later my wife told me he'd been worried I'd send someone else because I was busy. That bothered me more than I expected. I'm good at showing up, or I think I am, and I didn't like the possibility that he couldn't be sure. Also pleased he'd asked me specifically, which is a slightly embarrassing amount of pleasure to take from a school invitation. I told him again at dinner. He wanted to know if we could get burgers afterward. Confirmed.

Went down the beach with the dogs without a board. Different sort of walk when there's nothing tucked under one arm, shoulders level and both hands free until a kelpie decides a stick needs throwing. Kept it low with the right arm, felt the pull at the top but no need to put a performance on for a dog. The soft sand worked my calves harder than the path. Sat on a dry bit of log and let them carry on. By the time I stood up the sand stuck to the backs of my legs and I was hungry. Good hour out. No waves worth arguing about, just dogs wearing themselves out faster than me.

一起买菜的朋友今天穿了件我没见过的外套，问我颜色会不会太亮。我说蛮好，她就笑了，说女儿也这么讲。其实我看见她就高兴，跟外套关系不大，不过这种话我讲不出来。我们在菜场门口多站了一会，商量哪个摊头的青菜嫩，她买她的，我买我的。回到家还想起她问那句话时把袖子拉出来给我看的样子。这个年纪有人肯问你衣服好不好看，也是蛮让人开心的事。女儿晚上问今天有什么新闻，我只报了菜价，又觉得漏报了一件。

I tried the organ pedals in my ordinary walking shoes, having left the proper pair at home, and felt remarkably clumsy for somebody who has sat on that bench most of her life. My feet kept catching where they usually pass without my noticing. Once I took the shoes off I could feel the edges beneath my stockings, though I wouldn't care to play a service that way. My left hand was reasonably willing, so I stayed a little longer than intended, letting my legs do the work while my shoulders loosened. Walking home, I had that pleasantly used feeling I remember from a good afternoon of practice, not the worn-out feeling I had expected.

Mi hija quiso que le explique como distingo un motor que falla por el sonido, sin empezar por el nombre de la pieza. Pensaba que era facil hasta que trate de decirlo. Hice el ruido con la boca y ella se rio, despues lo repeti mas despacio y ya escucho la diferencia. No es que el oido adivine todo, le dije, uno escucha algo y va a comprobar, como ella con sus estudios, no puede decir cualquier cosa porque le parece. Me gusto explicarle pero me enrede cuando preguntó por el escaner. Le dije eso te muestro cuando tenga un auto aqui, no en el aire. Luego abri el manual para recordar bien una parte, antes de que vuelva a preguntar.

晚餐那波忙完，店裡問要不要留一片給我，我聞到起司反而有點膩，明明中午也沒吃多少。臉在烤爐旁邊熱了一整晚，出門外送被風吹到才發現耳朵也燙，安全帽戴上去更悶。回家先洗臉，水沖過額頭很舒服，站著都懶得動。結果女友在煎蛋，那個味道一出來，肚子突然叫得很大聲，剛剛不是還說不餓嗎。我把她多煎的那顆配飯吃完，才覺得腿沒那麼空。今天右手握切刀的地方還是緊緊的，拿筷子倒沒事。現在坐在椅子上不太想起來，襪子還沒洗，先讓我坐一下，真的一下就好。
