On veut acheter une étagère pour la cuisine de la coloc et je pensais régler ça vite avec les mesures. Sauf qu'on n'est même pas d'accord sur ce qu'on veut y mettre : moi les provisions, un coloc la cafetière, l'autre des plantes. Donc je compare des modèles pour trois problèmes différents sans m'en rendre compte. J'ai commencé un message pour faire le point, puis je l'ai relu, on aurait dit une convocation. On habite à cinq mètres les uns des autres. J'ai laissé le mètre sur la table pour en parler au dîner, avec un papier où j'ai écrit seulement la largeur disponible. On verra déjà ce qui peut entrer.

Die Enkelin wollte mir am Telefon unbedingt erzählen, dass sie allein etwas bezahlt hat. Was sie gekauft hatte, kam erst ganz zum Schluss; wichtig war ihr, dass sie das Geld selbst hingelegt und das Wechselgeld bekommen hatte. Das fand ich schön. Meine Frau sagte hinterher, ich hätte dabei genauso geguckt wie früher, wenn eine Kasse stimmte. Mag sein. Ich habe der Kleinen gesagt, sie soll mir den Einkauf beim nächsten Besuch zeigen. Sie war sehr zufrieden mit sich. Nach dem Gespräch habe ich die alte Blechsparbüchse aus dem Schrank geholt und abgestaubt. Noch bekommt sie die nicht, erst will ich sehen, ob der Schlüssel dabei ist.

Raw out, but kitchen were warm enough once oven had been on a while. Stood peeling potatoes and realised I'd been leaning my hip against the cupboard for most of it. Moved the bowl to table and sat down. Jean said I looked like I were settling in for a shift. Better than dropping peelings everywhere because my fingers were still cold from walking the dog. They warmed up round the bowl after a bit. Got up to check the oven and my knee caught, then let go. Dinner were fine. Sat eating with both feet flat on floor, and for once nowt in me wanted getting up again straight away.

После звонков в теплосетях челюсть была сжата так, что за ужином первый кусок жевала осторожно, будто он виноват. Ничего особенно твёрдого, обычная котлета. Я замечаю это не пока говорю, а когда уже можно молчать. Поставила тарелку, попила воды и посидела у окна, Федот немедленно занял моё место за столом. Пришлось вставать, зато перестала держать плечи возле ушей. Потом пошла пешком за хлебом длинной дорогой. Ноги от ходьбы не устали, наоборот, стало легче, а лицо остыло только на улице. Дома было жарко, но я прекрасно знаю, что не только батарея меня сегодня нагрела.

Une cliente est revenue pour me dire que sa mère arrivait enfin à utiliser la télévision. Je lui avais écrit les étapes sur une feuille, avec les touches dessinées. Elle n'achetait rien aujourd'hui, elle passait seulement. Cela m'a fait plaisir. J'ai répondu que c'était normal, puis repris mon rangement trop vite. Elle m'a dit merci une seconde fois avant de partir. Je crois que je lui ai donné l'impression d'être occupée alors que j'aurais volontiers écouté la suite. J'ai raconté la visite au mari ce soir. Il a dit que les gens ne revenaient pas pour remercier une fiche technique. Je n'ai pas trouvé quoi répondre, mais j'étais contente qu'il le dise.

My wife had a free evening at the same time as me, very rare, we were both in the kitchen and nobody was asking who would leave first. She told me a story from the supermarket, one customer arguing about a price until he discovered he had picked the wrong item. I laughed too loud, she said the children would think we were fighting. Nice to hear her telling a whole story, not only instructions about what food is in the pot. Later she fell asleep during the programme and I stayed beside her instead of going outside to talk. The programme was not even good. Still, I was happy there, no need to find another place to sit.

spent most of a loop trying to decide whether to change my fantasy lineup, because the guy everybody says to start is the one i benched last week and i don't enjoy rewarding that kind of timing. i can remember which porch has a loose third step without looking. remembering which player is on which injury report takes three checks and a coworker telling me i'm wrong. wrote the two names on the back of a grocery receipt while parked. now the receipt says milk, trash bags, questionable. which covers the house pretty well. haven't changed anything yet.

A woman who bought my knitting pattern sent a photograph of the finished piece. She said she'd made it for her sister, and I was more touched by that than by the sale itself. Something I worked out at my own kitchen table is now in a family I don't know. I nearly forwarded it to my daughter with an apology for making a fuss, then thought better of the apology. My daughter rang later and asked to see the other colours people had used. We spent a good part of the call on it. Usually I save my news until she's finished hers, and sometimes there isn't much call left. It was right some nice to be the one with a thing to show.

Lake quiet this morning. Took the shorter route and let the breathing settle before I picked up the stroke. The left shoulder clicked on the reach, so I kept that side a little shorter. No need to pull harder just because the water was smooth. Coming back, the hands were still warm enough to manage the ladder properly. Sat on the dock with the towel around my shoulders while my wife put the timer away. The sun was on my shins and I could feel the pulse slowing without counting it. At home the coffee tasted good. Legs loose, shoulder a little dull afterward. A good swim, though not one for the record book.

I keep finding the same surnames on old farm records and wondering when people stopped remembering the person and started using the name for a place. Dad still calls one field by a family that hasn't lived here for years. I asked him about it and he knew the father's name but not when they'd moved, then Mom remembered something different. Neither sounded unsure. At work I like having dates written down because they don't change halfway through a story, although I suppose someone had to put them there. I want to look at our old maps this weekend, just the ones at home. Not for a course assignment. I'd like to know which parts of the names I grew up hearing are actually places.
