Ma mère a ressorti une bouteille d'un millésime auquel j'avais travaillé, pour montrer à une amie. Pas pour la boire, bien sûr, chez elle elles ont presque interdiction de vieillir normalement. Elle a dit que j'avais fait celui-là, alors que nous étions plusieurs et que ce n'était pas mon domaine. J'allais corriger, puis j'ai vu comme elle tenait la bouteille. J'ai laissé passer. Cela me gêne qu'elle exagère, et cela me ferait probablement quelque chose si elle cessait de le faire. Mon amie m'a demandé après si je voulais qu'on en ouvre une chez nous ce soir. Oui. Une bouteille peut aussi servir à autre chose qu'à me rendre fier en silence.

My son wanted to be carried from the bus stop and I said he had legs. Then he put both hands up and somehow his legs became my problem. He is getting heavy, not enough to put him down immediately but enough that I kept changing sides, and each time he complained I was disturbing him. Important passenger. By our door my shirt was wet down the back and one arm felt much longer than the other. I was hungry too, properly hungry, and the smell from our kitchen nearly finished me. Sat down with water before eating and stretched my fingers. No pain, just that warm tired feeling after doing something physical. The passenger, meanwhile, was running round the room at full speed.

Estoy tratando de elegir música para un amigo que celebra su cumpleaños y llevo más rato pensando en el primer tema que en todo el resto. Me imagino una entrada bacán, después recuerdo que no habrá entrada, la gente va a llegar tarde y alguien estará buscando hielo mientras suena. Es raro cómo se me arma un evento enorme en la cabeza a partir de una junta en un patio. Tengo canciones suficientes para seis horas y él me pidió dos. Voy a dejar las que se puedan conversar encima al principio, aunque sean menos lucidas. Todavía no sé qué hacer con esa mezcla que armé y que me gusta demasiado para borrarla.

Fiz as tranças da minha filha sentada atrás dela, com os pés apoiados numa cadeira baixa, e só ao fim de algum tempo reparei que estava a apertar os dentes cada vez que ela virava a cabeça para a televisão. Os dedos ainda faziam o trabalho direito, mas eu tinha os braços pesados e precisava de pousar o pente no colo entre duas tranças. Ela quis saber se me estava a magoar. Não estava, era mais aquela dificuldade de ficar na mesma posição depois de tantas horas de pé. Mudámos as duas de lugar, ficou uma risca um pouco torta e as minhas pernas agradeceram quando pude esticá-las por baixo da mesa.

my girlfriend came over after her deli shift and fell asleep halfway through telling me about a customer. i was annoyed, which sounds shitty because she was clearly exhausted, but i'd been saving up this whole story from work and had pictured us actually having an evening. then she woke up just enough to ask if i'd eaten and i felt properly loved and still a bit annoyed at the same time. i didn't wake her to explain that. i'm usually good for a twelve-minute explanation of whatever i'm feeling, but watching her sleep on my arm, all i really wanted was for my arm to stop going numb.

It was warm in the greenhouse by mid-morning and I had damp cuffs from watering, so half of me felt summery and the other half seemed to have been left in a puddle. Rolled my sleeves higher and stood near the open door for a minute, lovely cool air on my forearms. I like the feeling of moving about when I'm warm, but once I stopped I realised how thirsty I was. Had a proper drink instead of my usual two mouthfuls on the way past. By home time my legs had that comfortable worked feeling and I was looking forward to sitting down. The cat took my place before I'd even got my shoes off. He had apparently had a tiring day as well.

Ma fille envoie une vidéo du petit. Il essaie de mettre une chaussure trop grande et tombe assis. Elle rit derrière le téléphone. Je regarde deux fois, puis une troisième pour entendre sa voix. Réponds qu'il marche bien. C'est une mauvaise réponse, il ne marche pas dans la vidéo. Elle envoie un visage qui rit. Pas d'autre échange. Cela me fait plaisir qu'elle pense à me montrer ces choses sans raison particulière. Je cherche une photo du chien à lui renvoyer. Toutes se ressemblent. Finis par lui demander s'ils ont passé un bon week-end. Elle répond le soir. Le téléphone est resté sur la table pendant le repas.

On my morning walk I noticed I was keeping the same brisk pace even where the road became uneven, so my feet were doing small corrections while the rest of me kept pushing ahead. I slowed down near the corner and could feel how firmly I had been holding my jaw. No call to take, no headphones, and still my body seemed to be preparing an answer. By the time I turned back, my breathing was easier and my shirt was damp between the shoulders. At home I sat before opening the laptop and felt the warmth in my legs gradually settle. Then one child called from the other room and I stood up before I had even finished the glass of water.

本日曇。買い物の袋を左右に分けて帰る。いつもは右にまとめるが、大根が重かった。団地の二階を過ぎたところで息を整えた。急いでも上に着く時刻はそう変わらん。手すりを持つと膝が楽である。後ろから来た若い人が荷物を持とうかと言うので、大根の方だけ渡した。玄関で受け取る頃には息も戻った。家内に話すと、米も頼めばよかったと言う。買ってもおらん米まで運ばせる気か。椅子に座って靴下を直すと足の裏がじんじんした。朝の横断歩道では気にならんのに、家に着くと急に足が働いたことを知らせてくる。今日は夕方の水やりまで座ることにした。トマトの水は家内では多すぎる。そこはまだ私の仕事や。
