one of the little kids at the park landed his first drop-in while i was filming and came straight over to see it, still shaking and grinning. i showed him and he asked if i could send it to his dad. no tags, no followers, just wanted his dad to see he did it. i was properly stoked for him, then a bit embarrassed remembering how i'd been sulking about my own edit getting hardly any views. doesn't mean i suddenly don't care about that, i checked again on the bus. but when the kid sent back a voice message saying his dad watched it three times, it made the whole morning feel good again. kept that message, actually.

My daughter called while I was putting groceries away and said she had a few minutes before heading out. We didn't get into anything important, just the price of something she'd bought and a neighbor's dog. I liked hearing her laugh with someone in the room at her end. Then she had to go, and I wanted those few minutes to have been longer. Can't reasonably want her to have a good full life and be available whenever my hours line up with hers, but reason doesn't get every vote. Finished putting the groceries away. Found I'd put the cereal in the fridge while we were talking. She'll enjoy that next Sunday.

Took the long walk with my partner and noticed how differently my feet behave in shoes that haven't spent twelve hours on a rental kitchen floor. The first few blocks were stiff under the heels, then my stride opened up and I stopped scanning ahead for somewhere to sit. We split a pastry standing beside a little wall, which is technically another meal on my feet, but nobody was waiting for me to carry anything. My shoulders stayed down without reminders. Back home the cat wanted my lap before I'd removed my jacket, and for once sitting still felt good immediately, not like a delayed discovery of every sore part.

Ri sozinho no ônibus.

One of the six a.m. ladies told a new client she had followed me all the way from my old gym because she did not want another trainer. She said it while tying her shoe, like it was obvious. Somehow I was happy and embarrassed together. Wanted to hear her say more and also wanted everyone to begin the warm-up immediately. I keep remembering the equipment leaving that place and the money still owing, so it surprised me that she remembered it as somewhere she liked to come. Told my boyfriend about it and he said yes, people like you. He sounded almost annoyed that this was news to me. I was still pleased on the boda home.

My son asked whether a bridge knows how much weight is on it. I explained that structures don't know things, then spent ten minutes using words like responds and carries, which probably did not help my case. He wasn't asking for a load calculation. He wanted to know why something that looks still can be doing so much. I've been turning that question over because it's a better starting point than the explanation I gave. At his age I built a popsicle-stick bridge and mostly wanted it to hold more books than anybody else's. I can remember the moment it failed very clearly. I don't remember once wondering what it was doing before that.
