Mi hija puso música mientras calentábamos la comida y me hizo repetir un paso de su clase de danza. Yo decía fácil pues, hasta que tuve que cambiar de pie al mismo tiempo que movía los brazos y me enredé toda. Nos reímos tanto que terminé con la cara caliente y respirando fuerte, más por la risa que por bailar. Tenía los hombros duros del salón, pero después de moverlos un rato se sintieron más sueltos, como si por fin dejaran de estar pegados a las orejas. La niña quería otra canción y yo quería agua. Hicimos media más, negociado. Ahora las piernas están cansadas rico, no como después de estar quieta junto a la mesa, y tengo un hambre que ya no espera a nadie.

Our grandson showed me his picture on the tablet and said he'd drawn my house, with the two upstairs windows where they sleep when they come. I was some pleased he remembered, though he gave us a mountain behind the shed and a dog bigger than the car. Told him I loved it and asked his mother to send a photograph. After the call I had a little cry, not a terrible one, just wished I could have been the one sitting beside him handing over the crayons. His grandfather said the dog was about right. We looked at it again over supper, both of us enlarging the same silly picture.

في آخر الدوام كانت الصالة أهدأ، ومع ذلك وجدتني أميل بأذني اليمنى نحو الموظف الجديد وهو يتحدث. هو يشرح شيئاً بسيطاً، وأنا أتابع حركة فمه أكثر من الشاشة، وهذا يتعبني من غير أن أنتبه. طلبت منه إعادة الجملة، فقالها عادية ففهمتها. حين قمت شعرت بالتيبس المعتاد في الركبتين، مشيت إلى خزانة الملفات ورجعت فصار القيام أسهل. قارورة الماء بقي نصفها ككل يوم، شربت منها قبل الخروج وكان حلقي جافاً فعلاً. عند البيت جلست قليلاً من غير تلفاز، لم أكن أريد أن أرفع الصوت ولا أن أطلب من أحد خفض صوته، فقط بعض الهدوء.

儿子发来两张折叠床的照片，说我们去西安住时可以用。我看半天也没看出折好以后有多厚，只见图片里屋子宽敞，床边还能摆个花架。他家那间屋我去过，门后有柜子，真放进去未必转得开。我给他回了几句，让先量门口和柜子前面的空处，再说买哪一种。他回我爸你们又不是天天住。我知道不是，可买回来不能每次开门都得挪。后来妻子说孩子是想让我们多住几天，不是请我去看家具。我又把照片点开看了看，床是次要的，车票还没商量呢，先把哪几天能去定下来再问尺寸。

Regresé del taller en la bici y en la bajada no pedaleé, nada más dejé que me diera el aire en la cara. Venía con las manos medio pegajosas aunque me las había lavado, y en cada bache sentía el manubrio en las palmas. Al llegar tenía mucha sed y me tomé el agua tan rápido que me cayó pesada un momento. Luego fui por más, pero despacio. Mi hermana quería que jugáramos en el patio y yo decía que estaba cansado, aunque a los cinco minutos ya estaba corriendo detrás de ella. Ahora sí tengo las piernas flojas. Me gusta ese cansancio, cuando me siento a cenar y no necesito estar moviendo el pie debajo de la mesa.

Mon père m'a envoyé un message au milieu de la nuit pour me demander si j'avais mangé. Il travaillait aussi, et j'ai pensé à toutes les fois où, enfant, je le croyais simplement absent quand il dormait la journée. Maintenant je connais le bruit d'une porte qu'on ferme doucement, les conversations entendues à moitié derrière les rideaux et cette impression de rater un morceau de la vie commune. Je ne lui ai jamais demandé s'il le vivait comme ça. Je suis tentée de deviner parce que nous avons les mêmes horaires, alors que lui avait une famille entière à retrouver au réveil. Son message tenait en cinq mots, et moi je suis partie très loin avec.

Водитель предложил короткий объезд, который я раньше не использовал. На карте всё выглядело нормально, но я начал искать, где там обязательно будет проблема. Проверил покрытие, ограничения, место для остановки, потом поймал себя на том, что снова смотрю уже проверенное. Привычный маршрут длиннее, зато его неприятности известны поимённо. Позвонил человеку, который ездил там недавно, и получил конкретный ответ вместо своих вариантов беды. Отправили машину, теперь жду отметки о прибытии. Не люблю менять рабочий порядок без причины, но экономия времени тоже причина. Главное завтра не рассказывать всем, будто с самого начала был уверен в этом решении.

nan beat me at dominoes again and this time i watched what she kept instead of just staring at my own tiles like a muppet. she remembers what everybody couldnt play earlier, while im busy being pleased ive got a double. asked her how long she'd been doing that and she looked at me like i'd asked how long she'd been breathing. tried it next game, remembered two things and forgot whose turn it was. at work i can spot a pattern in a batch of plates no problem, so its annoying that six tiles can make me look thick. she says less talking would help. outrageous suggestion from a woman who talks through the whole game herself

বড় বোন ফোন করে বলল ভাগনে পরীক্ষায় ভালো করেছে, আমাকে নিজে জানাতে লজ্জা পাচ্ছে। ছেলেটা ফোন নিতেই শুধু নম্বর জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, তারপর বুঝলাম অভিনন্দনটাই বলা হয়নি। বলতেই ওর গলা বদলে গেল, কোন প্রশ্ন কঠিন ছিল বলতে শুরু করল। শুনে বেশ ভালো লাগছিল। বোন আমার পড়ার সময় এতবার এমন ফোনের অপেক্ষা করেছে, আমি হয়তো তখনও শুধু ফল জানিয়ে রেখেছিলাম। আজ ওকে সেটা বলতে গিয়ে বললাম ছেলেকে ভালো কিছু খাওয়াও। সে বলল টাকা পাঠাতে হবে না, খবরটা দিয়েছি শুধু। একটু অপ্রস্তুত হয়ে হাসলাম। সব খবরের সঙ্গে যে কোনও ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার দরকার নেই, সেটা বোনকে বারবার মনে করাতে হয়।

My son showed me a recording he had cleaned up on his phone, an old rehearsal of our band, and suddenly I could hear my voice without the fan fighting me. I was stoked enough to call my mother from the courtyard, then remembered she would ask what he should charge. For once I wanted him just to play it again. He explained what he had changed and I tried not to interrupt, difficult work for this woman. I felt proud, yes, and a little shy hearing myself so clearly in front of him. He said the singing was already good. I told him of course it was, then asked him to send me the file before he went anywhere.
