The oldest was showing her aunt a college she'd been looking at, all excited about a place outside the city, and I wanted to be the father who just says that's great. I did say it. Then I asked about coming home and buses and how often she thought she'd visit until my wife gave me a look. She's only looking, nobody has packed a bag. I'm proud she thinks she can go somewhere like that, but hearing her talk about a room where none of us would be living made me feel left out already. Later she asked me to look at the pictures properly. I sat down beside her and felt better being asked, even though it was still far away.

Dry enough to get outside with the grandson after tea and he wanted bubbles, lovely till I found I couldn't unscrew the bloody lid, hands been in and out of water all day and that thumb doesn't like a thin little top. Husband opened it without a word, which was sensible of him. Once we got going I was blowing so hard I went a bit light headed, lad shouting bigger ones nanny as if I was holding something back. Sat on garden chair and let him have a go, could feel my shoulder easing down instead of being up by my ear. He tipped half the bottle onto his shoes, so that was the grand finale.

Обещала соседям маленькие посиделки на веранде и теперь считаю стулья, потому что маленькие уже превратились в четырнадцать человек. В голове сразу кто не ест мясо, кому привезти ребёнка, у кого складной стол, и вроде всё складывается, только Дима спрашивает когда мы успеем продукты купить. Я-то мысленно уже салат нарезала, а в холодильнике огурец и половина сыра)) Хотела всем написать чтобы принесли каждый что-нибудь, но тогда начнётся десять вопросов кому что. Наверное распределю сама, так быстрее. Хотя я же говорила что в этот раз ничего организовывать не буду, просто чай!

বাজারের দুই দোকানি একই ঘটনার আলাদা সময় বলছিলেন। প্রথমে মনে হয়েছিল একজন ইচ্ছা করে বদলাচ্ছেন, পরে আলাদা করে শুনে বুঝলাম একজন মাল নামানোর সময় বলছেন, অন্যজন টাকা চাওয়ার সময়। দুই ঘটনা কাছাকাছি হলেও এক নয়। খাতায় একই শিরোনামে লিখতে গিয়েই গুলিয়ে ফেলেছিলাম। সংশোধন করে দুটো সময় আলাদা রেখেছি। মানুষ অনেক কথা বলে, তার মধ্যে আমি কোন প্রশ্নের উত্তর চাইছি সেটাও পরিষ্কার করা দরকার। কাল আবার বসলে আগে ঘটনাটা শুরু থেকে বলাতে হবে, নিজের ধারণা দিয়ে মাঝখান পূরণ করব না। আপাতত বিরোধ মেটেনি, কিন্তু কার বক্তব্য কোথায় আলাদা সেটা অন্তত বোঝা যাচ্ছে।

On a couru doucement sur la corniche avec ma cousine, doucement surtout parce qu'on parlait trop. J'aime bien sentir l'air sur le front après une semaine près des têtes, des lampes et du sèche-cheveux ; mes mains peuvent enfin ne rien tenir, même pas le téléphone. Au retour j'avais faim et les jambes chaudes, une fatigue plus simple que celle du salon. Ma cousine voulait accélérer jusqu'au prochain poteau, j'ai dit oui puis je l'ai regardée partir, il faut connaître ses moyens ! Sous la douche, l'eau m'a piqué sur une petite peau abîmée au pouce. Je l'avais oubliée pendant la course. Le bissap était déjà au frais et j'en ai bu un grand verre avant de me coiffer.

Жена встретила у магазина бывшую ученицу, та теперь сама учительница, и принесла домой целую историю про её детей. Рассказывала, даже сумку не разобрала, улыбалась так, будто пятёрку получила. Я сказал, что картошка в пакете порвётся, она замолчала. Потом дошло, что не про пакет надо было. За ужином спросил, в какой школе та работает, и жена опять оживилась. Хорошо было слушать, хотя половину фамилий я не знаю. Ничего особенного не произошло, а вечер другой. Только зачем я полез с этой картошкой, можно было и самому убрать.

Une amie nous a proposé de passer boire un verre et j'ai été contente de dire non. Pas contente de ne pas la voir, contente de sentir que je préférais vraiment rester chez nous ce soir, sans chercher une excuse plus sérieuse. On a fini les restes, notre fils nous a raconté une histoire beaucoup trop longue avec un dragon qui devait prendre le tram, et ma compagne riait avant même la fin. J'étais bien. J'ai envoyé à mon amie une proposition pour la semaine prochaine, puis j'ai oublié mon téléphone sur la table. C'est assez banal comme soirée, mais j'aime ce moment où il n'y a plus rien à organiser et encore un peu de temps avant d'aller se coucher.

Orang yang sedang dekat denganku bertanya soal motif buatanku, bukan cuma sudah makan atau belum. Aku senang, tapi malah menjawab pendek karena takut kalau terlalu banyak cerita nanti kelihatan berharap sekali. Dia minta lihat fotonya. Sudah kupilih satu yang bagus, lalu batal kukirim sebab garis di pojoknya kelihatan aneh kalau diperbesar. Bu Padmi bisa melihat kain yang jauh lebih susah dan aku tidak segugup ini. Mungkin aku ingin dia suka bukan hanya karena sedang mendekati aku. Rumit sendiri, padahal dia mungkin sedang menunggu sambil melakukan hal lain. Fotonya masih di layar, belum terkirim sampai sekarang.

A conductor told me a passenger recognised him by his voice after years of using a different route. I can remember amounts from old accounts but I'm not sure I could recognise somebody like that, just from two words through a window. Since then I've been noticing the voices on my commute, who calls out a stage clearly and who can turn the same words into a complaint. At home I could pick my mother's voice out of a church full of people when I was small, even when she wasn't singing loudly. Maybe everyone keeps a different record of the same place. I know the routes by their figures; the passengers probably carry a completely different Nairobi.
