На репетиции впервые за долгое время не снял беруши после первой песни. Сначала бас казался чужим, глуховатым, всё хотелось прибавить, но потом привык и стал лучше различать, где сам сбиваюсь. Домой шёл без привычного звона в ушах, даже удивился тишине в комнате: слышно, как сосед ставит чайник, а не только собственный шум после подвала. Пальцы устали нормально, подушечки тёплые, струны ещё будто под ними. Зато не пришлось лежать и ждать, пока внутри головы закончится концерт. Беруши положил прямо в чехол, не в карман куртки, откуда они обычно отправляются в неизвестность. Посмотрим, хватит ли памяти на следующую репетицию.

I'm drawing a mudroom with enough space for boots, coats and the person trying to remove both at once. The plan looked generous until I pictured two grandchildren entering together with a dog behind them. We tend to draw storage as tidy rectangles and then expect the inhabitants to behave accordingly. My own dining table currently holds a cardboard model and a bag of dog biscuits, so I have useful evidence against this expectation. I tried a bench that can be approached from either end instead of one tucked neatly into the corner. Less elegant on the plan. Possibly much less swearing when everybody comes indoors.

Une fille de l'école m'a demandé quand sortait le deuxième fanzine et j'ai répondu « quand l'autrice saura dessiner des mains », très drôle, applaudissements imaginaires. En vrai j'étais super contente qu'elle attende la suite, sauf que ça m'a aussi donné envie de cacher les brouillons sous mon lit. Le premier elle pouvait l'aimer par surprise, le deuxième elle va vraiment le regarder. Je sais que c'est un raisonnement de championne, avoir des lecteurs puis se plaindre qu'ils lisent. J'ai raconté ça à mon grand-père et il m'a demandé s'il aurait son exemplaire. Même pas inquiet pour les mains. Oufti, ça m'a fait du bien et peur à nouveau dans la même minute.

Dans le bus du retour, j'ai eu une place côté fenêtre et j'ai posé les deux pieds bien à plat, sans sac sur les genoux. Mes chevilles étaient lourdes, mais au moins je n'avais plus à me relever pour aller chercher une boîte. J'ai senti mes épaules descendre en regardant dehors. À la maison, j'ai gardé dix minutes les jambes sur le coussin pendant que la petite me montrait un dessin. Elle voulait s'asseoir sur mes pieds, négociation nécessaire. Après la douche, la peau des mains tirait moins avec la crème. Je connais toutes les façons de rendre des chaussures confortables aux autres, alors ce soir mes propres pieds ont eu leur tour.

Нет, ну вы представляете, коллега говорит посетителю: спросите у неё, она тут всё знает. И я тут же разозлилась, потому что опять всё на меня! Потом посетитель ушёл, а коллега объяснила, что сама ответить не могла и вообще хотела похвалить. Вот теперь обидно уже за другое, за собственный тон. Я правда знаю, где лежит нужная бумага, и мне приятно, когда это признают, только хотелось бы, чтобы признание иногда приходило без человека у двери. Принесла ей чай, но она была занята. Чай остыл. Завтра скажу нормально, что на неё не сержусь, а то у нас примирение стоит в кружке и никто не понял.

mon fils prétend que mon gratin n'a jamais exactement le même goût et je lui réponds que les grands chefs s'adaptent, phrase très utile quand on note rien. j'essaie de retrouver ce que j'avais fait la fois qu'il préfère, celle du match regardé chez moi où on avait mangé tard. était-ce le fromage ou juste qu'on avait tous les deux une faim terrible ? ma mère dit que je cherche midi à quatorze heures, elle fait toujours pareil elle, sauf que chaque fois qu'elle explique elle rajoute un petit détail oublié. je vais noter ce vendredi, pas une recette de restaurant, juste de quoi pas inventer une nouvelle histoire la prochaine fois.

The history book I'm listening to has spent a long time explaining a battle and hardly any time on how all those people got fed before it. That's what I keep wondering about. Somebody had to haul the food, find the road and get there when they were expected, same as any load, except a hell of a lot harder. I don't need another list of generals making speeches. I'd like to hear from the fellow with a broken wheel and a wagon full of something spoiling. Maybe there's a book for that too. Donna says I can turn anything into dispatch trouble. She's right, but I reckon dispatch trouble probably changed a fair amount of history.

Meine Tochter hat mir ein Foto geschickt, das sie vom anderen Ufer gemacht hat. Die Fähre klein, viel Wasser, mein Platz auf der Brücke nur zu ahnen. Dazu stand, da bist du. Ich habe erst nachgesehen, ob es wirklich mein Schiff war. War es. Dann das Bild gespeichert. Fand ich gut, dass sie daran gedacht hat, mitten zwischen ihren anderen Sachen. Als sie heimkam, habe ich gefragt, wie der Ausflug gewesen sei. Nicht nach dem Foto. Sie hat trotzdem gemerkt, dass ich mich gefreut habe, glaube ich. Jedenfalls hat sie mir noch zwei Aufnahmen gezeigt, die verwackelten. Die waren auch in Ordnung.

I worked out my study hours for the next module and somehow the plan only works if I never come home tired. Excellent fictional timetable. I keep filling every open evening because I want the degree finished quickly, then one long shift knocks out a whole week of catching up. This time I've left space between the reading and the assignment instead of writing both into the same night. It looks slower on paper, which annoys me, but the old version was fast only on paper too. I need to check the textbook cost before I promise another family expense this month. That sentence is easy enough to write here; saying it on the phone will be the difficult part.

شفت صورة شباب دفعتي بلبس التخرج، وقعدت أحسب لو ضليت بالهندسة وين كنت هسه. الحساب طلع مرتب لأنه شطبت منه المصاري وضهر أبوي وكل إشي خلّاني أترك أصلاً. بعدين تذكرت شغلي هون، وإنه في أشياء بعرف أعملها وبحبها، بس هذا ما محا الغصة كلها. مش لازم أختار قصة وحدة أكون فيها يا نادم ع الآخر يا مبسوط بكل قرار. بعرف ليش تركت، ولسه كان نفسي أكمل. سكرت الصور ورجعت أقرأ عن العطل اللي اشتغلنا عليه بالمركز. فهمت الرسم بسرعة وانبسطت، بعدين رجعت فتحت صورة التخرج مرة ثانية، هيك بصراحة.
