كنت كنشوف المسلسل وبنتي بدات كتسرح ليا شعري وقالت أمي خلي راسك واقف ما تحركيش، بحال إلا أنا اللي كنصعّب ليها الخدمة، ولكن الصراحة يدها خفيفة وعجبني الحال، دفّيت رجليا تحت الغطا والولد الصغير حاط راسو على فخذي حتى ولات رجلي ثقيلة، ما بغيتش نفيقو وبقيت كنحرك صباع رجلي بشوية، فالنهار كامل كنخدم بيديا وبالليل شي حد كيدير ليا حاجة وأنا غير كالسة هادي زوينة، غير هي شدت خصلة وزادت فيها شوية قلت ليها آ البنت راه عندي راسي تحت الشعر وضحكنا بجوج، ملي شفت المراية لقيتها دارت ليا ضفيرة طويلة، خليتها حتى للصباح ما بغيتش نحلها.

A customer brought in a lamp and asked whether fixing it made any sense when a new one cost so little. The repair was straightforward. The deciding part was that his mother had bought it, which he only mentioned after we had spent ten minutes discussing the price. I've been thinking how often I answer the wrong question because I know the technical answer immediately. Sometimes people want permission to keep a thing, sometimes permission to let it go. I can't sell them either, really. Gave him the cost of parts and let him talk. He wants it fixed. The new lamp apparently wasn't nearly as nice anyway.

The new leaf on our plant looked exactly the same for days, then suddenly it was open. I know it didn't happen suddenly, I just don't stand there watching long enough to see the slow part. My boyfriend suggested taking a picture every morning. Now I have a row of nearly identical photos and am trying to decide whether the angle of the light makes it look different. This is a ridiculous amount of attention for one leaf, but I like it. At work a tiny difference usually means a field to check or a number to correct. Here the difference is what I'm waiting for. There is another small point coming up beside it, unless that's an old stem I overlooked.

We're doing a jigsaw of a snowy street and I have spent far too long insisting one piece belongs beside a window. The color fits. The shape nearly fits. My husband says nearly is the part that means it doesn't fit, which is very helpful of him. I moved on to the roof and found the actual window piece immediately. Now the first one is sitting alone in the middle of the table, looking exactly like a bit of sky. I like this kind of problem after work: everything needed is supposed to be in the box, nobody changes the order halfway through, and if we leave it overnight it won't spoil. Unless the cat steals the evidence.

Перед поездкой к матери сравниваю два автобуса. Ранний приходит с большим запасом, зато ждать придётся почти час; поздний удобнее, если не задержится. Обычно я даже не рассматриваю второй вариант. Сегодня посчитала, сколько таких часов за год провожу на станции, и сумма мне не понравилась. Но потерянный час заранее я переношу легче, чем десять минут неизвестности в дороге. Это не делает ранний автобус быстрее или лучше, просто объясняет мой выбор. Билет пока не взяла. Сестра говорит, что заберёт меня с любого рейса, только просит сообщить один раз, когда решу, а не после каждого нового расчёта.

Je connais un texte par cœur jusqu'au moment où je décide de vérifier si je le connais. Là, trou, panique, je repars trois phrases avant et tout revient, comme si le passage refusait d'être interrogé directement. Ce soir j'ai essayé de le dire en rangeant des assiettes, puis en restant immobile, et ce n'était pas le même rythme du tout. Je voudrais comprendre ce qui est vraiment retenu, les mots, le mouvement, la place de ma respiration, ou le souvenir de la personne qui me donnait la réplique. Enfin je voudrais surtout cesser de recommencer au milieu de la cuisine alors que mon dîner refroidit. Le texte est bon. Les pâtes beaucoup moins.

the dog wanted the short route this morning, so we did the short route and sat on a bench like two retirees who'd already put in a shift. my right shoulder felt less tight without a bag on it, just the leash loose in my left hand and cool air finding the damp patch at the back of my neck. i had actually slept through the night, which made the park look suspiciously tolerable. when he leaned against my shin i could feel his whole weight there, warm and solid, and didn't need to be doing anything with my hands. then my stomach growled loud enough for him to look up. buddy, same, we are both going home for breakfast.

今天看新员工冲同一杯饮料，步骤没漏，味道却跟我做的有一点不同。我本来想叫她照标准再看一遍，站旁边才发现她等冰块融了一会儿才摇，时间差就在几个动作之间。手册写了多少毫升，却不会把每个人停下来找东西的时间也写进去。想起爸以前教我泡饮料，总说看着做，我那时觉得他没有系统，现在知道他的系统有一半在手里。也不是说标准没用，没有标准三间店早就乱了，只是纸上正确跟喝起来一样，中间还有很多小习惯。今晚我在想培训怎么讲清楚这个差别，又怕自己越讲越复杂，最后把一杯茶教成考试。

J'ai promis à ma fille qu'on irait voir les bélugas quand les conditions seraient bonnes, pis maintenant chaque belle éclaircie devient une convocation officielle. Elle comprend pas pourquoi beau dehors veut pas dire qu'on part tout de suite. J'essaie de lui expliquer sans lui donner un cours de météo de vingt minutes. À force de dire bientôt, je me demande ce qu'elle entend exactement. Moi je vois les contraintes, elle voit surtout que son père l'a dit. Je vais regarder une sortie qui se prépare pour vrai, pas lui refaire une promesse en passant. Reste qu'on pourrait très bien faire tout ça et pas en voir un seul.

We're considering a summer road trip and I keep adding things to check before we choose a destination. Driving hours, places to stop, what happens if one of our shifts moves. My wife wants to decide where we'd actually enjoy being first. That is reasonable, although a pleasant lake doesn't negotiate hospital rosters. I've put two possible weeks on the calendar and left the route blank. My son has suggested somewhere with a hotel pool, making the entire landscape of western Canada secondary to a rectangle of warm water. I can work with that. At least it's a clear requirement, and one we might all enjoy.
