ammachi oiled my hair while i sat on the floor and complained that she was pulling, but actually after the first few minutes i stopped moving only. her fingers were warm and the back of my neck relaxed so much i nearly put my head on her knee like a small child. then she found a knot and the peace was over 😭 i am always looking at how much hair comes out in the comb, today i noticed how heavy it feels when she has finished, all one thick braid against my back. got up too fast and one foot was asleep because i had folded it under me. walked to the kitchen like somebody's ninety-year-old aunt, very glamorous sunday treatment

Walked the ridge before the post office and left the hive tool at home. My thumbs were stiff when I fastened my shoes, but they had nothing to grip once I got going. The uphill warmed me through without the trapped heat of the bee suit. Coming down, I took the longer bend for the knee. There was a cool patch under the trees where I stopped a minute and could feel the sweat drying on my neck. I was hungry by the time I got back. Ate breakfast at the table instead of carrying it around while I looked for something. A body can apparently do a fair morning's work without lifting a single box.

Cool enough this morning that I put my hands in my pockets for the first part of the walk. My knees took their usual few minutes to settle into it, then I caught up with a fellow who normally gets well ahead of me. We walked together without either of us mentioning the pace. It felt good having some distance behind me before breakfast, and I was hungry when I got home instead of just eating because the clock said to. Sat down to take my shoes off and could feel the warmth in my calves. The trouble starts if I stay in that chair too long, so I got up to make the eggs before opening the paper.

The motorbike brings its own refrigerator, no need to buy one. Went out before breakfast and by the time I reached the hardware my fingers were so cold I could not open the zip on the tool bag properly. The rest of me was warm inside the jacket, only hands and toes refusing. I held a cup of tea between both palms while the other fundis discussed a match I had not watched. Took some time before the fingers would bend easily. Then hunger arrived, serious hunger, so I bought two mandazi instead of pretending tea was enough. At the first job I could feel my hands again, and the stomach was no longer making announcements.

Warmed my hands before working on the pinball machine and then got so caught up in a small adjustment that I stood in the same spot for nearly an hour. At the casino I remember to shift my weight. In my own garage, apparently the rules don't apply. Sat down on the stool to try the flippers and felt the pressure leave my heels, a relief I should have arranged earlier. The machine finally gave me a decent game. My hands moved without much stiffness once I quit trying to fix something between every ball. Lost the last one cheaply. The machine can be fully restored and still have no manners.
Sat on a bench in the gardens with my coat open and the sun on my knees. I had meant to walk the whole route, but it was warm there and my feet were quite happy with a shorter outing. At first I kept holding my bag against my stomach as though somebody might ask me to get off at the next stop. Put it beside me eventually. I could feel myself breathing lower down, not that little breath I take when I'm checking the time. There was a breeze across my forehead and the rest of me stayed warm. Very pleasant until a fly became interested in my biscuit. I finished it quicker than planned, but I stayed sitting there. No particular reason to move yet.
