Emotion
Colorado sent a photo of snow on his windshield. Not a holiday, not an answer to something I'd sent. Just the damn windshield. I was so happy I nearly called immediately, then got mad at myself for making a big occasion out of a picture. Wrote back that he needed a better scraper and deleted it. Wrote that it looked cold, which is about as useful as pointing out the car. Sent that anyway. He answered with a laughing face. I have looked at it six times. Told my husband about the weather in Colorado over dinner like that was the news, and he said he'd like to see the photo.
Mind
Bought a cabinet for the laundry room and now I'm trying to explain to him why the shelves need to go in a particular order before anything goes back. He says the detergent is one bottle, it can sit on any shelf. But there's also the spare detergent and the basket and the stuff we never use except when we can't find it. I drew the arrangement on the cardboard box. Then realized I hadn't allowed for opening the detergent cap under the shelf above. I swear to God, I measured everything but the hand that has to use it. Haven't shown him the revised drawing. He'll enjoy that too much.
Body
Held the baby while my stepdaughter ate and got all warm along the front of my shirt, that solid little sleeping weight right against me. I kept changing which arm was underneath because my healed wrist doesn't like staying bent. Nobody was crying, including me for a change. He brought a cushion without making a production of it and I got my elbow settled on that. Could feel the baby's breathing through my sleeve. Then my nose started itching and of course the one thing I couldn't do was scratch it without waking somebody. Sat there making faces till he noticed. Very dignified grandma practice.
